When I'm bored I sit around and wonder who approves all these bizarre names for tulips (and roses). Fortunately I'm not bored too often. Siesta is a rich deeper lilac-rose bloom than Bell Song. Siesta is NOT sleepy. Siesta is NOT restful. Siesta energizes both the garden bed and the vase. The combinations with this one are endless —Blue Parrot, Bell Song, Silver Cloud, Synaeda Amor, White Triumphator etc. You will not want to sleep on this one.
Tulips grow best in zones 4-7 where colder winters are more common. When planting outdoors most classes of tulips do not return every year, with the exception of the Darwin Hybrids and species. We grow them in pots and crates and compost the bulbs after they bloom.
Fringed tulips are a relatively new introduction. They have elegant, cup shaped flowers, with ragged edges that look as if they have been edged with pinking shears. They flower in mid/late spring with the Triumphs, Darwin Hybrids and Parrots. 16-18" Contains 15 bulbs.
